Archive for Baking

Tis the season, for me to get in the baking mood

…and I did it again. Found this really cool recipe for Pumpkin Cookies with Cream Cheese Icing. Sounded yummy, so I had to try it. Came out pretty good. It’s suppose to make 3 dozen – of course that’s never right. And I had way too much icing. Not sure what I did. Normally I don’t have enough.

The looked great and tasted pretty good to. My dad stole like 3 already. Here’s what they looked like:

Thanks for Waiting…

My niece played another away game today. She did great, once we got there. Let’s see, you’ll love this one. The game was scheduled for 12:00, and we need to be in Pittston. It’s a good hour drive. So, we (my parents and I) get in the car and head up about 10:30 ‘cuz we need to get gas. (Boy, it’s good we did.) My mom decides she wants to take the “scenic” route to look for yard sales on the way. No big deal. We get just up to Wilkes-Barre and just about on the Interstate when I see the traffic is stopped. So I said don’t get on that, we can go through the city and get on at the other end.

Well, we ended up taking back roads the entire way there. Not to big of a deal, but it’s getting close to 12 now. So, we follow the directions we are giving to the soccer field only to end up in someone’s drive way. Funny, I doubt the people who lived in that house wanted 14 nine year olds running about thier living room kicking a soccer ball. So we call my brother. He’s coming up behind us, well, now neither of us know where we need to be. So, my sister in law gets on the phone with the coach. They get directions but I don’t quite understand how that worked especially since we saw 4 soccer fields before we found the one we needed to be at. Anyway, the other team was nice enough to wait. But, I guess they won’t be so nice next time, because….  when we finally get there. The girls get on the field. And we win 7-0. I couldn’t believe it. They did an excellent job especially for this unseasonably warm weather we have. It’s Oct. I shouldn’t be walking around in a tank top! Although, I’m not complaining too much. I’m not really ready for the cold yet.

Anyway, the rest of my day was spent baking for the Breiner Church Festival. It’s at this old historical church near my house. They have this festival to raise money to take care of the building. It’s really nice for being older than dirt. Anyway, they’ve asked my mom to donate something to the bake sale the past 2 years. She’s not much of a baker, so I use it to practice. I just made regular white cuppie cakes with vanilla icing. I gave the icining some color and used a piping bag to put it on. That’s really where the practice came in. They came out okay. I would’ve like to see them a little different, but hey I didn’t burn them, and they don’t look like poop! See….Cuppie Cakes

Then afer the baking. I went to Scrapbooking. I did well. I did about 7 pages. Which is crazy for me. I mean I love to do it, But it’s such a project to get the stuff out. And I hate a messy room so I need to clean it all up too. I wish I had room to just let it out…..  hmmm, some day I guess. Anyway, I took some pics of my better layouts. I’ll post them soon.

Anyway, I guess that’s all for now.

Gardening… and Baking

Well, today was day two of planting. everything’s planted except for a new bush w6-3-07-005.jpge just got today. I know, I know, I said I’ve have some pictures today of the flowers, but it started raining and my pictures didn’t come out so great. So, this one will have to do for now until I can get more.

Anyway, since our neighbor is no longer speaking to us. I realized my dad wouldn’t be 6-3-07-002.jpggetting anymore rhubarb pies. So, I was a good daughter and searched the web for a few recipes to try. I found a few and printed the out. Today I finally got to make them. Now, I’ve never really made pies before, so I was a little bit nervous with it. It looks okay, and my dad’s eating it. So I suppose it was success.

The Rhubarb custard pies that Gina use to get at the restaurant looked nothing like the one I made. I use to call that one “Celery Custard” because thats what it looked like. But mine actually had color to the Rhubarb the way its suppose to. Makes me wonder what is in Gina’s and where she’s gets them from.

Random thought of the day:
While I was planting today, I had dig alot and loosen the dirt. I kept digging up all these fish worms. So I would just move them so I didn’t accidentally chop them in half. Then it came to me. I wonder if they (the fish worms) knew I was actually picking them up and placing them in new spots. Granted, I don’t really think a worm has enough brains to comprehend that. But I wonder what they were feeling.  -Random I know.
