Home Improvement

In most cases, people usually know what the heck they are doing before they decide to improve a room in their house. But not my mom and I. We’ve decided to take on the task of remodeling our kitchen downstairs. This involves ripping out the old carpet, painting the cement, laying tile, paintng the walls, hanging wallpaper, putting up wainscoting and getting a new carpet.

The project officially started September 16th. To give you an idea, this is what it looked like then:

So far we’ve managed to get the carpet out:

We got the tile down.

Today, we started putting the wall paper up:

Next up Wainscoting…. oh dear.

A Rose among Thorns

As always there’s no real purpose to this post, other than to warning to any female working in a department of all guys…

I always use to say they were corrupting me. Today proved it. If you haven’t heard what I said yet, message me.

I am the proud owner of a Lug Wrench

Yeah, you know. Those 4 way wrenches you use to take lug nuts off your tires. Since I was left without one when I had my flat a couple weeks ago, I decided it’s probably better that I get one. So, I picked me one up tonight at the Wally World. It’s exciting :) Yes, enter as much sarcasm here you can find.

Ok, So it’s been too long

…and I definetly agree.  But a lot has been going on. I’ve been spending a lot of time with my mom, with Joe, and helping out a lot with the Relay for Life team I joined.

First, what new with me and Joe. Well, just this past weekend, I finally got to take a real vacation. Joe and I went for 5 days to Niagara Falls, Ontario. We drove up on Tuesday and stayed until Sunday. We saw of course the falls, and even made a hike to Toronto, then on the way home we stopped at the Buffalo Zoo to see the polar bears since the Toronto Zoo is reconstructing the polar bear exhibit. Of course I had my camera in hand the entire trip. Now instead of listing all 236 pictures here which would take forever to load, I’ve added them to my Picasa account, and decided to just link to it. Click Here for Niagara Falls Pictures.

My mom and I have just been getting each other through this year. It’s tough and hard to believe it’s only been 4 months with out my dad. Sometime I feel like it never happened and he just away on a bowling trip. My mom even said the one day she had to go pick him up at the hospital. Oddly enough, the day she had that feeling was one year from the day we brought him home for John Hienz after his stroke. Long process but we’re getting there.

Finally, to help get my mind busy. I joined the Relay for Life team at the camp ground. I’ve always been a huge supporter of the American Cancer Society. And I knew it was only a matter of time until I was working to raise money for the cause. Most weekends we have a concession stand at the campground where campers can purchase everything from hamburgers and hot dogs to haluski and cheesesteaks. We sold raffle tickets on tricky trays and other prizes. We have a good chunk of change so far, and I’m really looking forward to the dog walk my cousin and I will be doing. We’re going to be selling some food, bake goods, and raffel tickets to participants in the walk.

I suppose that’s all for now. I hope to post regularly again soon.
